The article raises the issue of street gangs and violence. We can see that for example at line 6 "his career as an up-and-coming member of a chicago ganag called the Vice Lords". This sentence sets the mood of the article witch will be full of violence. Another example must be "Jimmy wheels the honda toward a group of faceless teenagers". We still talking about the same guy who was entering the Vice Lords. Eventually another example of violence is "He's been shot in the stomac, hit in the head with a railroad tie,..." This sentence emphazices the consequencies of beeing part of a gang.
The initation rite consists in driving a sotlen Honda Prelude about 40 minutes with a 9-mm TEC-9 under the seat. Finally the future member have to wheel the honda toward a group fron a rival gang. In Jimmy's case, he blasted seven rounds into the crowd, wounding three of them. This initation tira involves violence because the gang force the future members to use the gun against people, Jimmy only wounded three but he may have killed them. Therre's other ways to enter a gang, i mean different gangs have different initation rites. For example an initation rite from another gang asks the new members to fght four against one without weapons.

A. This article raises the issue of street gangs and violence. The interviews to various current or previous gang members highlight the degree of violence that the whole country is immersed in, especially in the main cities like Chicago or Los Angeles. There are various quotations that highlight this street violence: “Time to prove your stuff by shooting some rivals” ; “blasts seven rounds into the crowd, wounding three” ; “The quickest exit from gang life is via the morgue”.
A street gang is a group of people, generally young, from poor families, and with little to no education, that goes around one or various neighbourhoods committing crimes such as gang banging, robbery, or simply truancy. Youngsters tend to join these gangs when they have nothing else to live for: they need a family, people to take care of them, and to feel accepted; things they think that can be found in a street gang.
B. An initiation rite is a kind of ceremony or activity that must be done to prove loyalty to something or someone, or to gain access to a gang or group.
There are various initiation rites, that depend on the different gangs. Jimmy's initiation rite consisted in shooting some rivals from a stolen car: “Here's the gun. There's the car. Get up and go, boy”. This is a very common initiation rite, but there are many more. They tend to involve violence as a way to see if the aspiring gang member has what is needed to defend the rest of the gang. Also, by committing such a crime, he's putting his own life in peril, earning the respect of the band members.

The newspaper article deals with the true story of Jimmy, a very young member (16 years old) of a gang called the Vice Lords, from LA, who wants to quit the gang.
Jimmy is scary-looking since he looks just like a crazy violent gang member: "crazy stare. massive knuckles, tattoed biceps, big hands ..."
Yet, there's a difference between her physical appearance and his real inside: he' s a terrified teenager who made a mistake and is now looking for a getaway.
When he was 14, he fell into gang banging.
Jimmy tells us about a disturbing account of his initiation rite. First, he was told to steal a car. Then, he had to drive he car around the city and shoot some members of a rival gang.
Now, he would like to breakaway from the gangculture because he's really scared and can't handle this lifestyle anymore.
In the second part, he looks back a few years from now on his personal life. Here's what happened: he was told by the other gang members to go and shoot some rivals, in order to prove himself. He was really scared, didn't really want to do it, but he had been told to, and disappointing the gang was very dangerous. When decision time came , he did as he had been told. But he soon got tired of gang banging, and got really scared. He wanted to quit the gang.
In the third part, we learn that getting out of the gang is not easy as it sounds because first, you' ve made lots of ennemies all this time long, and by quitting the gang you' re losing its protection. Secondly, you have to go through de-initiation rite, a very dangerous one.
Some gangs go as far as fighting you in a 4 vs 1 duel. You can get killed, or stay in a coma ... That's why Jimmy is really scared: he wants to quit the gang but it's a very scary and dangerous decision to take.
The headline implies that getting in a gang is a lifelong decision: once you' re in there, you can't get out of it, at least now without pain and troubles ...

The article raises the issue of street gangs and violence. The author show this when he explain the violente initiation to the gang banging. Jimmy has to prove his stuff by shooting some rivals and the others members of the immy:gang says to J “try not to hit someone's mama or baby, but mainly just pull the trigger bang bang bang”. This sentence highlight this street violence. In the case of Eddie Hernandez, “he's been shot in the stomach, hit in the head with a railroad tie”. We can see this street violence in “He remained in a coma for 58 days” too.
A gang is a group of people, through the organization, formation, and establishment of an assemblage, share a common identity.

ResponderEliminarA.The article raises the issue of the street gangs and violence.
The three quotations I have found to highlight this street violence are:
"-Jimmy wheels the Honda toward a group of rival turf and blasts seven rounds into the crowd, wounding three.
-"Don't you know what would happen to me if I just told my gang I want out? That I'm scared."
-" The ground rules: four against one for three minutes, no weapons."
A gang is a group of three or more people who share a common identity, usually criminals or hoodlums who band together for mutual protection and profit.Modern day gangs now collaborate together for anti-social reasons. Gangs generally have a leader or group of leaders who issue orders and reap the fruits of the gang's activities. A gang may also wear their "colors", wear certain types of clothing, tattoos, brands, or likewise imprint their gang's name, logo, or other identifying marks on their bodies.
Youngsters join those gangs for a variety of reasons:
-A search for love, structure, and discipline, a sense of belonging, the need for recognition and power, Companionship, training, excitement, and activities,a sense of self-worth and status, a place of acceptance, the need for physical safety and protection,A family tradition.
So, gangs offer the sense of belonging disaffected people crave. From broken homes and broken lives, many feel the need to be a part of something.
Many come to believe there is no alternative to the “thug life.”
Throughout this article, the author is trying to debunk the myth of gangs.
ResponderEliminarIn the first part, he shows how members of the gang aren' t really protected by the gang. In fact, they' re more scareed of the gang than of their rivals. As a matter of fact, Jimmy, a 17-year-old boy, is looking forward to quitting the gang, but can' t, because he fears the gang' s reaction. ErrRrr XaViiiIiiii* (LLLL)
In the second part, he implies that joining the gang doesn' t mean you make new friends. The myth of loyalty and brotherhood inside the gangs is just a legend. Jimmy is scared of the other gang members, wich shows they' re not his friends. They' re just "colleagues" that would let you down anytime you' re in trouble and who would be pleased to fight you if the gang asked them to.
Finally, the author conveys the message that once you join the gang, ther is no turning back, it's a dead end. Quitting the gang is way too dangerous and scary, very few people dare to, and most of them get out in pretty bad conditions. The pros do not compensate the cons. Not by far.

While you may believe that joining a gang will protect you from bullies or other gang members, being in a gang greatly increases your chances to be a target for rival gang members. You are far more likely to be injured or killed if you are in a gang. Many former gang members report that they had to change their lives dramatically as a gang member. They could no longer wear clothing they used to wear. They got into fights while attending school with rival gang members, and ended up dropping out of school. They felt unsafe going out of their neighborhoods, and they couldn't ever be sure where they might be confronted by rivals. Even if they got out of gangs, their rivals didn't forget them. They still had many enemies who might hurt or kill them. I quote this sentence to justify this part: " The de-initiation (...) four agaisnt one for three minutes, no weapons". We can see that the gang doesn't protect you.
B)
You will have friends, but you'll also make lots of enemies--the members of rival gangs. Also, your friends who haven't joined the gang may stop wanting to be around you. Your gang may not approve if you have friends or date people outside the gang. They may question and test your loyalty, and insist that you hang out only with them. Respect in many gangs really means fear. I quote this sentence to justify this part: "The quickest exit from gang life is via the morgue". we don't have a real friends and we have a lot of ennemies, we are alone and we don't feel safe.
C)
Gang members decide to leave the gang lifestyle every day in cities around the U.S. It is a myth that the only way to leave a gang is by dying. Most gang members who leave are able to live normal lives, going to school and working just like everyone else. However, in some cases, getting out of a gang isn't easy, and you may have to leave your home, school or community in order to be safe. It IS easier to get into a gang than to get out of one, but you can choose to leave the gang life today. Here is one example of a man who left his gang for a better life. There are many more examples of people who have successfully walked away from gangs, as well. I quote this sentence to justify this part: " They did me pretty bad ". Here, we can see it's so hard to get out of a gang. Jimmy was sad because he doesn't achieve to get out of a gang.
THE IMPLICIT by Anthony Nelson T-ES
ResponderEliminarThe journalist debunks the myth of gangs in the U.S.A as he interviews the different current or ex-gang members. Their words prove that their initial perception of gangs was not right at all.
A) John D.Hull shows us that being a part of a gang does not guarantee that the gang will protect you when you're in danger. In fact, there are high chances the gang will put you through more dangerous situations, often unprotected and without any kind of support. We are given the example of Jimmy T's initiation rite: he was ordered to shoot some of the gang's rivals from a stolen car, leaving him very vulnerable, since he could get shot himself, or accused by the police of theft and possession of a fire arm without a license. In the best scenario, the gang will protect one individual member, but only if the harm he could receive would harm the entire gang as well.
B) The same theory can be applied for making friends by entering a gang. Gang members are only interested in what you can bring to their cause (i.e., decimating the rival gangs and controlling neighbourhoods), they are not interested in the actual person. They believe that they don't need friends, since friends can betray them, and emotions cause errors and could turn the members away from their common goals in the gang. This is best shown when a member tries to leave the gang: his old partners, people who were close to him, don't have any problem with breaking his bones or even killing him.
C) This leads us to the final problem, and the main message that is conveyed in the text: leaving a gang is nigh on impossible. Turning on the gang is considered an insult towards the rest of the members, and like deserting the nation's army, getting out of the gang brings many terrible consequences. Some gangs have a kind of de-initiation rite, where the member who's leaving gets pummelled by the other gang members: that was the case of Keith Smith, who remained in a coma for 58 days after a brutal beating. Some other gangs don't have an official de-initiation rite; the consequences remain just as dangerous for the “deserter”. The worst part of it is that, despite getting severe injuries from the beating, the gang tends to come back again for more.
NO WAY OUT blanca.
ResponderEliminarThe gang does not protect you. The journalist highlighted the dangers of gangs using real examples of people who has seen injured. The debunks the myth that gangs provide security for its members. As we can see in the case of Jimmy has been a difficult process. Smith's example is as scary as the journalist says in the text : “ he remained in a coma for 58 days” or eddie's example, “he's been shot in the stomach and hit in the head with a railroad tie”. The journalist says that joining a gang did not get new friends. In fact, you can make enemies.
3 - The implicit/Opinion (PEDRO)
ResponderEliminarNowadays, joining a gang is not the way to be protected as people usually think. Jumping into the gang is like entering in the wolf's mouth. The one's who are in your gang will protect you that's true but the gang rivals not, they are dangerous and the carrie guns with them at every moment. Inside the gang, the atmosphere is the contrery of peaceful atmosphere. This one emphathizes that "HE'S BEEN SHOT IN THE STOMACH, HIT IN THE HEAD WITH A RAILROAD TIE..."
Joining a gang doesn't mean you have new friends 'cause those poeple look after one's own interests. The mood is a feeling of insecurity living around people carrying guns and ready to use them. This one emphathizes it "MEMBER OF A CRIP SET IN LOS ANGELES WHO JUST SAID NO TO FELLOW GANG MEMBERS LAST APRIL "THE DID ME PRETTY BAD""
The article also shows that it is hard to get out of the gang. It's logical because once insede you will get involved in hazardous problems with others gang witch remain a long long time. This one emphathizes that "
In my opinionbroken families or family troubles are to blame for the youngsters' confusion and involvement in gangs. However it's a social issue witch can be easely solved. The gang won't desapear because there's people who are inside the gang for different reasons. I think the journalist is beeing too pesimistic because I think thers ways to leave the gang. I don¡t understand why violence is the single most important aspect os gang culcure.

The journalist try to demostrate that the gang does not protect you, because you can be manipulated “Time to put in some workyou’re your homies. Here’s the gun”(exemple: the initiation), you can be subjetc of some abuse, you are far more likely to being injured or killed if you are involved with a gang, Joining a gang will not increase the number of friends you have “faceless teenagers”. People who loved you will hate you (families, friends…).
So, the members of the gang are not your friends, they don’t want to help you, they only want you to be in troubles. They want to scare you. They are not interested in your life, they just want to have fun making fun of you. They will never support you if you commit a crime that they asked you to make. You are afraid, not protect.
Moreover it’s very hard to get out of a gang. You have to pass a de-initiation ceremony “ the ground rules: four against one for three minutes, no weapons.” It’s a dangerous and violent act and a lot of people are injured, collapsed. Opinion
In my opinion, I think that broken families are to blame for the youngsters' confusion and involvement in gangs because this youngsters' maybe they can feel lonely and sadly. They have absentee parents because they don't look after him. So, this youngsters go in the street and they was involved in gangs.
In my point of view, I think that the journalist is being too pessimistic because he told us the story with a negative arguments. But, I agree with him. In the text, we can quote different quotation that they show us the pessimistic point of view. " the ground rules: four against one for three minutes, no weapons". " The quickest exit from gang life is via the morgue". This quotation show us the cruelty of the de-initiation and of the other things in the gang life.
Finally, I think
